new car seat has been launched in the United States to eliminate the chance of
a baby being forgotten in a vehicle. Serious injuries and tragic deaths have
occurred as a result of babies being left in cars with soaring temperatures.
Car seat manufacturer Evenflo has collaborated with Walmart to offer a new car
seat that alarms when the car stops, acting as a reminder to parents their
child is in the car. Walmart
said that it is a 'first-of-its-kind car seat with a technology aimed at the
prevention of vehicular heat stroke'.
Instead of sounding an alarm once you have walked away from the car, the Evenflo SensorSafe sounds an alarm as soon as you stop your car, to remind you that your child is in the car with you.
The system works by connecting to the car's notification system via an OBD II port dongle. When the car travels at over 5MPH for 30seconds the systems activates, and when you stop your car and turn off the engine, the alarm sounds. However, if you have a hybrid or an auto-stop system in your car and you are worried that the alarm will go off everytime you stop at a traffic light, you can get a different dongle which programs the car seat so that the alarm only goes off when you switch the engine off yourself.
The Evenflo ADVANCED SensorSafe™ Embrace™ DLX is available in the US exclusively at Walmart for $149.88.
