I am simply not cool enough. That is what I thought when I entered the lobby of the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch. There were hipsters and Apple Mac's as far as the eye could see. It was clear that Cybex want you to understand their brand stands for cool. The Ace Hotel is a great place to start then!
What I was really there to see was Cybex's new pushchair the PRIAM.
Until now, Cybex have been known for their car seats. This is most certainly about to change. They have a raft of new pushchairs to release in 2015 that have been designed to suit all budgets. The PRIAM is the first of these and is aimed squarely at the luxury sector of the market. It sits in their Platinum Product Series. These photos are from the Cybex 2015 image collection.
When you first see a Cybex PRIAM you can immediately see that the design has a certain ‘influence'. This is because Cybex took inspiration from the California based designers Charles and Ray Eames. Eames pioneered minimal design creating products with the distinctive ‘Eames look' across everything from furniture to architecture.
The PRIAM does indeed have a very distinctive look. It is dominated by the chrome lower chassis rails. These are set off with white wall tyres and a gorgeous rivet free frame. The effect makes the product appear feather light, endowing it with a very classy look. While it is still a normal pushchair shape, it most certainly does not follow the crowd! Cybex have worked really hard on the design detailing. There are little branded leather badges and brand names positioned perfectly across the pushchair, seat and carrycot. This is clearly a pushchair for the style conscious parent – it looks gorgeous.
The Cybex Priam is not just about looks it is a very clever product as well. Cybex have developed a range of accessories allowing owners to personalise their PRIAM. There is a range of wheels for various surfaces, two different main seats, one lighter than the other, you can even get a set of ski's that replace the front wheels. It is clear a lot of thought has gone into making living with the PRIAM a dream. If you are an urbanite, or like walking on the bumpy park tracks most days, you can create a PRIAM that will fit your lifestyle.
We were given a demonstration of the PRIAM and are initially impressed. Every key function you would want as an owner is present and simple to execute. There are some nice touches such as the two wheel mode which makes it easier to tackle a beach or very bumpy ground. Folding is quick and simple, although not quite the most compact in its class. The most striking element however is the sheer quality of the product.
The PRIAM is of course compatible with the Cybex range of infant carriers and can be combined with the Aton Q and the Cloud Q to create the ultimate travel system.
The Cybex PRIAM is quite clearly going to make other manufacturers of luxury pushchairs sit up and take notice. We cannot wait to get out hands on one for a full test.
