2019 marks 20 years since the first Bugaboo stroller came to market. While the Cameleon itself wasn't launched until 2005, that original Bugaboo very much provided the blueprint for what remains the most iconic and instantly recognisable pushchair out there.
In keeping with its namesake, the Cameleon has changed and changed again over time - in fact, the number of different models has now reached 393, including all the various colours, designs and special editions. But it's very definitely the same animal.
The latest incarnation - the Bugaboo Cameleon3 plus - retains all the practical features we know and love, along with that distinctive look, but boasts a redesigned shopping basket and a subtly sleeker appearance, and offers more opportunities than ever for putting your own stamp on your pushchair.
Available in Bugaboo's most up-to-date colour portfolio, the Cameleon3 plus can be mixed and matched to suit your style, with a choice of three fabrics for the bassinet and seat, and 11 for the hood. Opt for solid colours like neon red from the Core Collection, subtle grey mélange from the Premium Collection (which also comes with added environmental credentials as the fabrics are made from PET plastic bottles), or birds printed fabric from the Signature Collection.
The new basket has been designed for easier access whether you're using the bassinet or seat unit, and the frame on the seat has a more streamlined look with the removal of the foam finish seen on earlier versions.
The modern, minimalist appearance of this pushchair hides no fewer than 280 different parts, including Bugaboo's trademark functional white buttons, which each have a job to do. Every one of these - whether it's linked to the fold, seat, suspension, wheel lock, handle height or something else - is designed to be clicked up to 10,000 times. The Cameleon3 plus has been tested to travel at least 5,592 miles, or a journey the distance of Amsterdam to Shanghai.
