Maxi-Cosi RodiFix AirProtect Review

5.0 / 5
High back boosters are an important follow on seat for older children. They are there to keep your child in a safe position in the car when using the vehicle seat belt. We're taking a look at the Maxi-Cosi RodiFix AirProtect Group 2/3 car seat.

Quick Summary: This is a great car seat for an older child. They are kept really comfortable and once they reach a stage of independence, it's easy for them to get in the seat and fasten their own seat belt. Thanks to the higher seating position, kids will enjoy the better view that they get out of the window. We love the fact that a recline has been added, as it's still important for longer drives. Maxi-Cosi are at the forefront of child car seat safety, so it's not surprising that the latest technology is used in the form of AirProtect. It's another reassurance that your child is sat in one of the best seats available for their age.

Whats good?

  • Comfortable
  • Easy to fit and use
  • Recline for naps

Things we love…

The main difference between the standard Rodi car seats and the RodiFix AirProtect is the addition of patented AirProtect technology that is built into the sides of the headrest. This technology is designed as small inflated airbags each side which can reduce the risk of head or neck injury by 20%! By squeezing the headrest, you can feel the soft and squidgy inserts that are there to protect your child on impact. They will also make it very comfortable to rest on.

Installation of the RodiFix AirProtect can be done with just the vehicle seat belt, or with ISOFIX and the belt. It's really quick and simple to fix the connectors to the car and means that the seat is always secured safely in the car, even if your child isn't travelling with you. The belt routing is obvious thanks to the bright red belt guides at the shoulder and across the legs. At the shoulder, the belt is kept in place with a grey clip. Unlike some high back boosters, this seat is cut away at the sides, making it very easy for the child to secure themselves should they want to.

To last your child from around 4 to 12 years old, the seat features height and width adjustment. To move up and down, the headrest has a button at the very top. The side wings flex outwards with two positions to make sure even older children will have plenty of room.

It's great to see a Group 2/3 car seat with the option of two recline positions for those all important car naps! It's easy to adjust by pushing up the two grey side levers.

Things to look out for…

For someone looking for a high back booster for an older child, you can't go far wrong with the Maxi-Cosi RodiFix AirProtect! Our only comment is that it is a higher price than some of the other seats available, but you are getting the added technology and features that this car seat offers.
