Silver Cross Wave Review
Things we love

Luxury is apparent on every inch of this proud-standing pushchair. For £995 (deep breaths!) you do receive quite a lot in the box. Chassis, carrycot (with hood and apron), seat unit (with hood and apron), seat liner, two raincovers, two mosquito nets, cupholder, a pair of Simplicity car seat adapters and a pair of tandem seat adapters so that you can use the pushchair as a tandem straight away without buying any additional accessories. Even with the big price tag you do feel like you are getting a lot for your money!

Even in its simplest form as a single pushchair or pram there is so much to talk about with this pushchair. The attention to detail is really impressive and every rivet, lever and joint is branded with the Silver Cross name. This gives a great feeling of quality. The handlebar sits at a lovely angle and is really comfortable to push. We also love the finish of the leather handlebar and the adjustment has great range and takes just seconds to operate.

There is no denying to deluxe status of the Wave when you set eyes on the fabrics of the seat and carrycot. The deeply woven fabrics are soft and comfortable for baby. We would describe them as almost lambswool-like they are so soft, and of course you have the added bonus of the hoods giving UPF50+ protection. Another one of our favourite features is the built-in one-plus-one system. This is fantastic as instead of fiddling about and breaking nails when adding adapters or elevators you simply press the button and the adapter swings around and changes position to allow more room for the lower seat or carrycot to be put in place! The seat and carrycot are a great size and the seat unit is able to take a great 25kg in weight to make sure you really get the best from the pushchair in terms of length of use.

Storage will never be an issue at the shopping basket is deep, large and sturdy.

One final finish which we are really impressed with is the rubber coatings on the frame in places you would usually knock and scrape quite often.

Things to look out for

With the great quality of the Wave comes weight... and lots of it! As a single pushchair it is large, so perhaps not the best for those who need to put it in and out of the car regularly. But if you are planning to walk the suburban streets then it is just fine. In tandem mode the Wave becomes much more difficult to manoeuvre up curbs, around corners and through the aisles of shops. It has a long and wide wheelbase, which you do tend to bump off door frames if you aren't perfect with your judgement on every occasion. The tandem adapters are super-easy to just pop on the front of the pushchair but they sit right on the front axle so you can really feel the weight over the front wheels and cornering is made heavier.

Much like the pushchair itself, the fold size is very large. You definitely need a large car boot to fit this pushchair in!

The beautifully crafted seats have a great one-handed recline but to remove the seat or carrycot from the chassis you do need two hands to pull the levers on each side simultaneously.

Even though the shopping basket is large, as expected with a tandem pushchair, the bottom seat or carrycot makes access to the basket tricky.

Our verdict

The fabrics and attention to detail on the chassis give an exceptional feel of quality. You get a lot for your money even if the price tag is on the large side. However, with this quality comes a lot of weight and a very large fold size so the Silver Cross Wave is best suited to suburban dwellers who plan to walk rather than drive with their pushchair.
