Maxi-Cosi Dana For2 Review
Chassis

Maxi-Cosi are highly regarded for their fabulously reliable, superior quality baby products and their latest release, a double stroller suitable from birth, fills a huge gap in the double pushchair market. The Dana For2 is has been specifically designed to make going out with two little ones a breeze so we have put it through its paces to see how easy it really makes life on the move with two!

As with all pushchairs, there was a bit of setting up to do with the Dana For2, but it didn't take too long. The manual gets big thumbs up as it was so easy to follow and understand. Just pop on the wheels and then add on the sun hoods and you are ready to stroll before you know it.

On paper, the Dana For2 has an impressive waistline for a double stroller, but it still seemed rather large stood in the middle of the room waiting for its passengers to take their first ride. We liked this very much, as it has a presence about it whilst somehow still looking sleek. All worries about the width of the Dana For2 were put to rest when we wheeled it through the internal and external doors with no trouble at all. At 79cm wide, there was room to spare either side of the stroller when going through door frames and entrances.

There are lots of sleek lines on this stroller like double pushchair, but when you stand behind the handles, it still feels incredibly sturdy, even when laden with two toddlers. It can accommodate two children of up to 15kg each, which is quite a weight to carry, but it does so with ease. Perhaps this is due to the fact that this double stroller has nine wheels! Not only does it have a central wheel at the front of the stroller but it also has double central wheels at the rear of the stroller too which supports the weight of the fully laden pushchair perfectly and makes it a breeze to push and steer.

There are three easily accessible and easy to use grey levers on each front wheel. These can be popped up to allow the wheels to swivel and to turn the stroller on a sixpence and then flicked down to lock off the wheels if you need to tackle bumpy grounds like cobbles or rutted pavements.

As with many double strollers, the Dana For2 has three handlebars to allow for different pushing positions and different situations. The fixed position handlebars all sit at a convenient 107cm. This is higher than most stroller handlebar heights by around 2cm - and that 2 cm really made all the difference! Even the tallest drivers weren't bending or slouching and found the stroller super comfortable to push for longer periods of time. The central of the three handlebars is a quirky triangular shape. Not only does it look funky and add to the sleek appearance of the Dana For2, but it also serves a fab purpose - it allowed us to steer the stroller one-handed (which is a pure luxury compared to your usual double stroller!).

Just above the centre wheel on the back of the pushchair is a nice and large grey colour coded brake pedal. It's a simple press on/press off system to give a rock steady brake to the stroller on hills, at curb sides and when you're parked up for a picnic in the park. We did find that you had to press the brake a few times to check it was on and off correctly, but this may be down to it being a new and slightly different system to what we are used to. It was easy to check when the brake was on and off as there are handy red and green indicators on each of the outer rear wheels. What we did love about the brake pedal was that it wasn't positioned too low to the floor and was very easy to access so there were no chances of scuffing your toes in a battle to flick it on and off!

Travelling with two children can often mean travelling with double the luggage too! The basket on the Dana For2 stretches across the whole wheel base of the pushchair giving plenty of room. The sides are slightly shallow but this allows access from any angle, which was very much appreciated when we were in a hurry. The basket does have a divide down the centre but we found this handy for keeping things safe and stopping everything from rolling around and leaking.

Seat

What we noticed first about the Dana For2 is the sumptuously padded seat cushions - they are so soft that even parents will want to snuggle into them, not to mention the babies. These cushions are removable, reversible and washable too, which makes the pushchair practical for parents living a real life where crumbs and juice spillages are bound to happen!

As standard, the Dana For2 comes with two forward facing stroller seats. Each seat is 30cm wide and 20cm deep, which made them perfectly comfortable for babies and larger toddlers. The seat back of each seat is 50cm high, we found that taller toddlers tended to brush the top of their heads on the sun canopies but headroom can be increased by removing the sun canopies. One tiny trick that learnt to help our tall toddler sleep a little more comfortably in the seat of the Dana For2 was to flip the adjustable head support cushion upwards. This extends the seat a tiny bit (a few cm's) but seems to make all the difference!

Each seat has three recline positions, the flattest of which is 155 degrees which is perfect for babies from birth. The recline levers are at the back of each seat and are very easy to pull as they are spring loaded.

Making baby even more comfortable, is an adjustable calf rest which can be popped up to support younger babies legs or down when your toddlers legs are long enough to sit on the plastic footrest at the bottom of the pushchair frame.

Each seat has its own hood which extends to give good coverage. We loved the added little feature of the sun visor which is patterned and coloured to compliment the seat cushions of the stroller - it's the little details like this that give the Dana For2 its super sleek look and feel! There is also a great large peek-a-boo window for you to check on baby and see what they are up to without disturbing them.

The harness on each seat is like a miniature version of a Maxi-Cosi car seat. It is so simple to use and really quick to buckle and unbuckle. To alter the size of the harness, you just draw the harness cords through the plastic sliders to the length that you require.

As a double umbrella stroller, what makes the Dana For2 really unique is its ability to be used with Maxi-Cosi infant car seats as part of a twin travel system or system for children of two different ages. The car seat adapters come complete with the stroller in the box. You do have the option to remove the whole seat fabric by sliding and unclipping them from the frame, but we tended not to go with this option as it was more time consuming. We just slid the car seat adapters onto the clips with the seat fabrics already in place. The versatility of the seating options on this double stroller are definitely appealing to parents with twins and children of different ages.

It was great to have the option of the newborn facing the parent when pushing and the toddler still being able to face the world. The car seat adapters are long in length which allows for one or two car seats to be attached to the stroller at a time.

Driveability

The Dana For2 isn't the lightest umbrella stroller to sling over your shoulder, however it is very light to push. All nine of its wheels seem to share the load perfectly and the Dana For2 seemed as light as a feather to push (even when laden with two fully loaded seats). The rear wheels have quite a bit of spring in them, which are quite visible from the back of the stroller. The front singular wheels are great for turning tight corners and nipping in and out of things, but we did need to lock them off using the large grey buttons at the front of each wheel when we came across gravel and cobbles.

The central triangular handlebar made popping up and down steps and curbs easier, but even still, this required a bit of strength!

Fold

This nippy double stroller has a very simple folding system which requires very little fuss.

Flick the foot pedals on the back of the pushchair frame upwards to release the frame. Then, on each of the outer handles you will notice a little thumb lever below the handlebar, just pull these upwards and then push the stroller downwards. It compacts into its folded state smoothly and with very little huff and puff, even though it is on the heavy side!

To unfold the pushchair you need to release the frame lock by pulling up on the thumb levers on each handlebar again. Just flick the pushchair back up and step down firmly on each foot pedal. You do need to make sure that you push down really firmly on each foot pedal to lock the frame into place before you pop your children in the seats.

The fold isn't as compact as we expected but it does fold down into a small package for a double stroller and space is always a premium when transporting two children.

Conclusion

Overall, Maxi-Cosi have created a versatile and compact side-by-side double in the Dana For2. The soft seats are comfortable enough to accommodate a toddler and the easy to use recline system means that the seats are suitable from newborn too.

It's great to have the option of using the Dana For2 with one or two Maxi-Cosi car seats and the car seat adapters are refreshingly easy to clip on and off the frame.

The simple hoods with large peek-a-boo windows are effective and allow for individual use depending on the needs of the child in each seat. Combine this with the easy to use harness and the Dana For2 gives parents the ultimate in fuss free strolling and super comfortable travel for your little ones too.

If we were to be really fussy, the brake pedal can sometimes need a few pushes to pop on and off and the storage could be a little easier to access. But mostly, everything about this double stroller is functional and effective, whilst at the same time it retains sleek looks and is far more stylish than any double umbrella stroller we have came across before.
