Mamas & Papas Airo Review
Things we love

If you're familiar with Mamas and Papas then you will know their pushchairs and strollers are renowned for quality and style - the Airo is no exception to this rule! When you stand back and admire the Airo the svelte curves of the sleek chassis are undoubtedly pleasing to the eye. The Airo comes in several on-trend colours including Black, Grey Marl, Rose Gold and our personal favourites: Grapefruit and Mint!

Ever the masters of the one-handed fold, first introduced on the Armadillo stroller, the Airo features the signature barrel fold function on the handlebar of the pushchair. It is easy to fold and unfold the stroller with one hand and baby on your hip - we just gave it a few practice runs at home first, which turned into a competition as to who could achieve the quickest fold!

We were big fans of the tall and comfortable seat unit. It easily housed a 4 month old baby comfortably and also a 3.5 year old toddler with head room to spare. Having the luxury of the adjustable calf rest meant we could make the seat a cosy space for passengers of all ages. It is especially handy when your baby wants a nap on the go.

The bumper bar added another hint of luxury to the seat unit as our babies and toddlers love to hold on to them. The quality of the Airo is emulated here too, with the pivoting joints allowing you to undo just one side of the bumper bar and swing it open to get baby in and out of the seat.

The hood gives us all of the features that a full sized pram would. The viewing window and the zip open extendable panel give great coverage whether it's from Marbella rays or London Town showers!

We were really taken by the ability to use the Airo from birth, although it's worth noting that the seat is quite open for a newborn so we would definitely suggest purchasing the newborn pack if this is a possibility for you.

Things to look out for

As with most compact fold strollers, there's a few hinged joints down the handlebar. We didn't feel any movements in these points with our baby tester on board however over time, or with a heavier baby on board, we can foresee these hinges being points to watch when applying pressure to the handlebar going up and down kerbs and when leaning on the handlebar going up hills. Another point to note about the handle is the angle at which it is set from the chassis. The adjustable handle height is hinged and lowering the handle height moved the driving position even further away from the seat unit and centre of gravity, making steering that little less effortless.

Our final point to flag about the airo would be the price point. For a compact stroller, that albeit can be used as a travel system if needed, is costly. The stroller alone with no extras is £399 and from this price point, bundles increase up to the value of £949.

Our Verdict

If you're craving the style and substance of the Ocarro or Strada in a travel sized package, then look no further. The signature Mamas & Papas one-handed barrel fold made quick trips in and out of shops, cafes and cars simple and easy.

The ability to use such a small folding pushchair as a travel system from newborn all the way up to 22kg is really appealing and the Airo has all of the features you would expect from a full sized pushchair. It's fair to say that the Airo offers us convenience and comfort from birth right the way through, but be prepared to pay that little bit more to make it cosy and safe for newborns.
