Joolz Hub Review

Say hello to the Joolz Hub, designed to make the most of urban living. Things we love…

The compact nature of the Hub is evident from the very beginning. It lifts out of the box ready to roll.

We love how this pushchair can easily be steered with one hand. The handlebar is slim, fitting perfectly and comfortably into your palm, and the wheelbase is narrow, allowing you to slalom your way through busy areas with ease. Even with a wheelbase of just 53cm, the rear wheels are chunky and give some substance to this city pushchair.

The hood is impressive and really useful for nap times, as well as to shield from the sun. It is UPF 50+ to protect from harmful rays and extends right down almost to the bumper bar. We also love the clever mesh panels in the hood to allow fresh air to flow into baby's space.

We have to mention the fold on the Hub as it is so simple and so compact. There's no need to remove the seat (in parent or world-facing mode) and it stands alone and has a great carry strap for slinging over your shoulder.

The basket is deep and has a sprung loaded access point at the back to enable you to squeeze every last parenting essential in there, even when the seat is fully reclined.

We're also pretty impressed with the green ethos of this sustainable company. Their reusable packaging, the Joolz Birth Forest (where they plant one tree for each pushchair sold), their Dutch production facility and their Amsterdam headquarters are the epitome of respect for our environment. The Hub is produced in a sustainably renovated factory with greenhouses and other smart energy-neutral solutions. This is well worth bearing in mind for families who like to do their bit for Mother Nature where they can.

Things to look out for…

We loved the long seat and extendable footrest, making the Hub great for taller babies, but did find the seat reasonably narrow - something to look out for with broader children. The bumper bar also sits quite high for babies but is great for toddlers and young children.

The chunky rear wheels are fab but it is worth bearing in mind that the Hub is designed for urban strolling and the suspension is pretty stiff, so if you do stroll over any rougher ground then your passenger might have a slightly bumpier ride. You can always lock the front swivel wheels into a fixed position to help in this situation, though - we locked the wheels over gravel and cobbles.

Our verdict

This pushchair, with its green credentials, is easy to use for parents and comfortable for babies.

There is no doubt that the fold will suit any lifestyle as it is quick and simple to operate and we loved how there was no need to remove the seat, no matter what direction it might be facing in.

If you plan on using the Hub from birth, there is a deep and luxurious full-size bassinet that can be purchased separately which makes this city stroller into a nimble city pram for your newborn. Alternatively, there is the option of buying a cosy cocoon, which fits onto the seat unit to keep your new baby snug, and can continue to be used in an upright position until they reach about 18 months.

The attention to detail and thought that has gone into the Hub is evident and overall it was a pleasure to use during day-to-day life as a parent of three little ones.
